It’s important to be able to pinpoint the early warning signs of testicular cancer.
Did you know that for men ages 15-44, testicular cancer is the most diagnosed form of cancer? Testicular cancer cases have continued to increase over the last 40 years, which is why it’s more important than ever to turn to our urologists, Dr. Ahmad Kasraeian and Dr. Ali Kasraeian at Kasraeian Urology, to receive the education, knowledge, and care that you need to protect your health.
What are the symptoms of testicular cancer?
One of the most common warning signs of testicular cancer is an enlarged testicle or a painful lump on one of the testicles. Even if the lump is small, it’s important that you have it properly examined since early testicular tumors may only be the size of a pear or marble.
Along with swelling or enlargement, you may also notice:
- Pain or numbness in the testicle or the scrotum
- A feeling of heaviness in the scrotum
- A dull ache in the groin
- Breast enlargement or tenderness
- Chest pain and/or shortness of breath
- Swelling in one or both legs
Many of these symptoms are indicative of other conditions. While it might not be cancer, it’s still important to visit your urology specialist in Jacksonville, FL, if you are dealing with any of the symptoms listed above.
How is testicular cancer diagnosed?
One way to detect testicular cancer is through a simple ultrasound, which allows us to get a more detailed view of the scrotum and testicles. This is a completely painless and non-invasive test where we will glide a small device over the scrotum to produce the images we need to look for cancerous tumors.
Blood tests are sometimes recommended to determine the number of tumor markers in your blood. While this won’t necessarily mean that you have testicular cancer, elevated tumor markers can alert us to the fact that something is going on.
